Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information our independent derbyps.org guide collects, how we use it, and the choices you have.

Effective date: October 17, 2026

Who we are

This website, derbypsorgs.com, is an independent informational guide that explains what derbyps.org is and how families use it. It is run by our Editorial Team. We are not affiliated with Derby Public Schools.

This Privacy Policy applies only to derbypsorgs.com. It does not apply to derbyps.org or any other website we link to.

Information we collect

We try to collect as little information as possible. The information we may collect falls into a few groups.

Information you give us

If you use our contact form or email us, we receive the details you choose to share. This usually includes:

  • Your name
  • Your email address
  • The content of your message

Please do not send us student records, account passwords, or other sensitive personal information. We do not need it and cannot act on it.

Server logs

Like most websites, our hosting server automatically records basic technical information when you visit. This may include:

  • Your IP address
  • Browser type and version
  • Device and operating system
  • Pages visited and the time of each visit
  • The referring page that linked you to us

We use this information to keep the site running, troubleshoot problems, and protect against abuse.

Cookies

Cookies are small text files stored by your browser. We use them in two ways:

  • Essential cookies. Our WordPress site may set cookies needed for basic functions, such as security features, remembering your cookie notice choice, or keeping a form session working.
  • Analytics cookies (if enabled). If we enable an analytics service, it may use cookies to measure how many people visit and which pages are most useful. Where possible, we configure analytics to limit data collection, for example by shortening IP addresses.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking essential cookies may affect how parts of the site work.

Information we do not collect

We do not offer user accounts, logins, or payments. We do not collect student data, grades, or school records. We have no access to derbyps.org, PowerSchool, MyPaymentsPlus, or any district system.

How we use information

We use the information described above to:

  • Reply to your messages and correction requests
  • Improve our guides and fix errors
  • Understand which topics are most helpful to readers
  • Maintain the security and performance of the site
  • Comply with legal obligations

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use it to build targeted advertising profiles.

How we share information

We share information only in limited cases:

  • Service providers. Companies that help us run the site, such as our web host, email provider, security tools, and analytics provider (if enabled). They process data on our behalf and only as needed to provide their services.
  • Legal reasons. If required by law or court order, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of our readers, our team, or others.
  • Business changes. If the site is transferred to a new owner, information may be transferred as part of that change, subject to this policy.

We do not forward your messages to Derby Public Schools unless you ask us to. In most cases, we suggest you contact the school directly instead.

How long we keep information

  • Contact messages: kept only as long as needed to respond and keep a reasonable record, then deleted.
  • Server logs: kept for a limited period for security and troubleshooting, then deleted or overwritten.
  • Analytics data (if enabled): kept in aggregated form according to the analytics provider’s retention settings.

Children’s privacy

Although our topic is a school district website, this site is written for adults, mainly parents, guardians, and caregivers. It is not directed at children under 13.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, in line with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). If you believe a child has sent us personal information, please email hello@derbypsorgs.com and we will delete it.

Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights over your personal information under laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) or the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). These may include the right to:

  • Know what personal information we hold about you
  • Request a copy of that information
  • Ask us to correct inaccurate information
  • Ask us to delete your information
  • Object to or limit certain uses of your information
  • Not be treated differently for exercising your rights

To make a request, email hello@derbypsorgs.com. We may need to confirm your identity before acting. We will respond within the time required by applicable law.

Where GDPR applies, we rely on your consent (for example, for analytics cookies), our legitimate interest in running and securing the site, and our need to respond to your requests.

Security

We use reasonable measures to protect information, such as encrypted HTTPS connections, keeping WordPress and plugins updated, and limiting access to site administration.

No website or online service is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please avoid sending sensitive information by email or contact form.

Third-party links

Our guides link to other websites, especially derbyps.org. We also mention or link to services such as the PowerSchool Parent/Student Portal, MyPaymentsPlus, and Google tools.

These sites are run by other organizations and have their own privacy policies. We do not control them and are not responsible for how they handle your information. For details on how the district approaches student information, see the Student Data Privacy page in the Technology section of derbyps.org.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the effective date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be noted clearly on the site.
